We're the House Ear Institute

We’re devoted to advancing hearing science research and education. We’ve been involved in hearing loss prevention since 1946, beginning with our Late Founder Howard P. House, M.D., who directed the safe sound study that led to the OSHA guidelines that still exist today. While we’ve come a long way since then in advancing and imparting knowledge concerning all types of hearing health issues, our philosophy remains the same… “knowledge is only valuable if you share it.”

Hearing loss is a growing issue. More than 37 million Americans suffer from it today; and 30% of them have preventable noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL). That figure is on the rise, and teens have been identified as a particularly high risk group for NIHL due to lifestyles, loud listening habits and lack of awareness for the impact excessive sound exposure can have on their health and lives.
